GHPCO and HEC PRESENT:

The Ethics of Palliative Care

Earn 5 ETHICS CE Credits while exploring the ethics of palliative care!

Join Kathy Kinlaw, MDiv, Associate Director, Emory University Center for Ethics and Kevin Mack, JD, MA, MTS, Clinical Ethicist, Emory Healthcare as they explore the ethics of palliative and end of life care!

This workshop will focus on common ethical issues that patients with palliative care or end-of-life care may experience and constructive approaches for addressing these issues.  Kevin and Kathy will describe pathways for collaboration between palliative care providers and ethics consultants caring for patients and families. They will also discuss and define the impact of moral distress and moral injury during the provision of palliative and end-of-life care.

Kathy and Kevin will also consider guiding attendees through topics impacting ethical decision making in palliative and end of life care including: initiating, withholding, and withdrawing treatment; resuscitation decision making; working with advance directives; conversation round values and goals of care; navigating disagreement between surrogates; addressing moral distress during and following difficult cases and addressing moral injury for healthcare providers as well as patients and families.

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the most ethically challenging topics facing providers caring for palliative and end of life care patients!
